Brandon’s Story

Brandon was an 8yr old boy in the 2nd grade when he was diagnosed with leukemia. He loved karate, swimming in the ocean, tetherball, rollercoasters, video games and being really goofy. During his stay in the hospital (almost 250 days) he found a love for baseball. He watched the Phillies in 2008 while in the hospital and when the Phillies weren’t playing he was asking everyone in the family to have a catch with him in his hospital room. He arranged baseball games in his hospital room or the playroom and when he was allowed out of his room, we would circle the hallway on 3South and throw the ball (very soft) as far as we could. He would love to practice his base sliding in the halls too!

In January of 2009, Phillies pitcher Ryan Madson came in just to see Brandon. Brandon’s favorite part of the visit was when Ryan helped him perfect his curve ball. In the same month, Brandon had his Make-A-Wish with Shane Victorino, his favorite Phillies player. A limo took the family to the Citizens Bank Park where he met Shane, received some gifts, took batting practice with Shane pitching and then they went out into centerfield together. It really was a wish-come-true for Brandon.

Brandon relapsed and was never able to regain remission, but he was always strong and he never gave up hope. His smile will never be forgotten.
